Le Mark Stages a Renovation for Indigo at The O2

In 2017 Le Mark was entrusted to renovate the 200m² stage at indigo at The O2, one of London’s most sought-after venues. Originally designed for music concerts, it has now opened its doors to the corporate, sport and comedy world.

To ensure the highest-quality staging was provided for its world-renowned performers, Le Mark was asked to install brand new flooring. When some water damage was discovered we were also tasked with repairing the existing staging.

“Our current floor had been laid for 11 years and was showing signs of end of life,” said Rob Burrows, Technical Manager, indigo at The O2. “Le Mark has always been our go-to supplier and they were able to supply the new flooring within spec and budget. Ordering was simple and straight forward.”

The first step in this exciting project was to make good the existing plywood to stop movement and squeaking. We supplied and installed new exterior-grade WBP plywood covered in a fibre-reinforced smoothing compound and then fitted a heavy-duty safety floor covering in black, with black nosing for a professional finish.

Le Mark was able to source the exact flooring finish that had been previously used so the aesthetic in the space was unchanged. This was chosen because it demonstrated outstanding durability and abrasion resistance, and it is recommended for use where long life under heavy traffic is required. The beautiful duotone marbleised decoration is an attractive yet practical finish making it slip-resistant.

Le Mark also taped up and replaced the rotten subfloor, supplied a coloured inset on top of the stairs and neatly trimmed around the fire exit. Work was completed during a four-day dark period.

“We were pleased that the installation team was extremely knowledgeable and professional,” said Rob, “and that Le Mark handled a colour-match issue without question, quickly rectifying any issues we had. The stage floor has performed well in the live events environment.”
